Amazon Listing Optimisation Checklist for Sellers
An optimised Amazon listing uses the words shoppers actually search in a readable title, five benefit-led bullet points, complete backend search terms and attributes, high-quality images including a clean main image, A+ Content for brand owners, competitive pricing and a steady flow of genuine reviews. Good listings improve both search visibility and conversion rate, which also makes ads cheaper.
On Amazon, your listing is your shop window, your salesperson and your SEO, all at once. Use this checklist for every important product.
1. Keyword research
- Use Amazon's search suggestions, your Search Query Performance report (for brand owners) and keyword tools.
- Group keywords into primary (title), secondary (bullets) and long-tail or synonyms (backend).
2. Title
- Lead with brand and the main product term buyers use.
- Add key differentiators: size, quantity, material, model or use.
- Keep it readable. Stuffed titles reduce clicks and may break category rules.
3. Bullet points
- Five bullets, each starting with a clear benefit.
- Answer the questions buyers ask in reviews and Q&A.
- Include size, compatibility, care and what is in the box.
4. Backend search terms and attributes
- Add synonyms, alternative spellings and regional terms, without repeating title words.
- Fill every relevant attribute. Missing attributes keep products out of filters.
5. Images
- A main image on a pure white background that fills the frame.
- Lifestyle, scale, detail, infographic and packaging images.
- Readable on a phone: large text, few words.
6. A+ Content (brand owners)
- Tell the brand story, show benefits visually and add a comparison chart to cross-sell your range.
- Do not just repeat the bullets.
7. Price and offers
- Check competitors' prices regularly; use coupons and deals strategically.
- Keep stock healthy. Stock-outs hurt ranking momentum.
8. Reviews and ratings
- Use Amazon's "Request a Review" feature and programmes such as Vine where eligible.
- Never offer incentives for positive reviews.
- Fix product issues raised in reviews and update the listing.
9. Measure
Track sessions, unit session percentage (conversion rate), ranking for key terms and advertising cost of sales after each change.
We do this for sellers every month: see Amazon listing optimisation, A+ Content and Amazon PPC.

Frequently asked questions
Review them every few months and after any major change in search trends, competitors or reviews. Avoid constant small edits to titles.
Yes. Backend search terms let you add relevant words and synonyms that do not fit naturally in visible copy.
