Shopify SEO Checklist: 15 Fixes to Get More Organic Sales
To improve Shopify SEO, organise collections around what customers search for, write unique product titles and descriptions, fix duplicate product URLs with clean internal links, compress images and limit heavy apps for speed, add product structured data and reviews, create helpful buying-guide content, and submit your sitemap to Google Search Console.
Shopify gives you a solid technical base, but a store doesn't rank just because it's on Shopify. Use this checklist to find the fixes that bring more organic traffic and sales.
Where to start
If you can only do three things this month, fix duplicate URLs and internal links, rewrite your top 20 product descriptions, and speed up your collection pages.

Structure
Plan collections around searches.
Name collections the way customers search ("women's running shoes", not "Collection 4").
Keep navigation shallow.
Important collections should be reachable from the main menu within a click or two.
Link to canonical product URLs.
Shopify can create product URLs inside collection paths. Make sure your theme links to the clean `/products/` URL.
Collection and product pages
Unique titles and meta descriptions.
Include the product type and key attribute, and make each one different.
Write original product descriptions.
Cover benefits, materials, sizing, care and common questions.
Add intro text to collections.
A short, helpful paragraph above or below the product grid gives search engines context.
Use descriptive image file names and alt text.
Describe what the image shows.
Handle out-of-stock and discontinued products.
Keep pages for items coming back; redirect permanently discontinued products to the closest alternative.
Speed and technical health
Compress images
And use modern formats where your theme supports them.
Audit your apps.
Remove unused apps and their leftover code.
Check Core Web Vitals
In Google Search Console and fix the slowest templates first.
Submit your sitemap
(`/sitemap.xml`) in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
Trust and visibility
Add product structured data
(price, availability, reviews) so products can show rich results.
Collect reviews
On products and on your Google Business Profile if you have a physical location.
Publish helpful content.
Buying guides, size guides and comparisons answer shoppers' questions and link to your collections. This is also what AI assistants quote when they recommend products.
